School counselors support the academic achievement and personal development of students through comprehensive school counseling programs (CSCP) that are invaluable in creating a community of care. However, there are often barriers to implementation of such programs.

Administrators Brad Cooper, Mark Edwards and Brad Stapler lead public schools in Alabama that employ instructional coaches who use evidence-based practices to improve reading and math performance at the secondary level.

Three researchers sought to explore this topic as doctoral candidates at Samford University’s Orlean Beeson School of Education. Ann Jemison, Kenya Martin-Hall and Robert Stewart, all 2020 graduates, found one of the major contributing factors to innumeracy in adulthood is having a lack of foundational problem-solving skills in math.
