Courtney Payne earned a degree in exercise science from the University of Alabama with a minor in nutrition. During and after her studies, Payne worked with Collegiate Strength and Conditioning at the University of Alabama and Louisiana State University. She was a personal trainer and fitness manager for six years at various gyms and fitness facilities. Later in her career, Payne became an assistant women's basketball coach at Jacksonville State University while earning a master's in sports management. For the next 11 years, she worked in secondary education as a science teacher, multi-sport coach, and strength and conditioning coach. Payne holds a doctorate in kinesiology from Concordia University, St. Paul, and is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). She is currently an assistant professor in the kinesiology program at Samford University.
