First-Generation College Student Chotsani J. “Chots” Holifield
Juris Doctorate Candidate in the Cumberland School of Law, 2024.
B.A. in Political Science Magna Cum Laude 2022

Chotsani “Chots” Holifield will begin her second year at Cumberland School of Law this fall. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in political science from Samford as part of the 3+3 accelerated program, which allowed her to finish her undergraduate degree during her first year of law school. Chots was a Pre-Law Scholar, a Howard Scholar, and an Ambassador for Howard College of Arts and Sciences. She was on the Dean’s List each of her undergraduate semesters.

In addition to her academic accomplishments and honors, Chots was actively engaged in campus life as a leader in the IMPACT program (Inspiring Minorities to Pursue Academics and Community Together), serving as a mentor for two years. She was also elected to several positions of executive leadership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, including Secretary, Vice President, and now President. She also served as Treasurer and Public Relations Representative of the Black Student Union on campus.

When asked what it meant to her to be a First Generation College Student, Chots replied, “Being a first-generation college graduate means being the pivot toward more opportunities! While my Samford Story is filled with fond memories and honors, I am most proud of obtaining a higher education—not just for myself but for my family!”
