Is This Program for Me?
Students who thrive in this program are passionate about the the world of sports and how emerging technology presents new opportunities and challenges for individual athletes and sports organizations as a whole. They are energetic and committed students who understand how to convey a story in a way that is both factual and entertaining. On and off the field, they are not intimidated by the immediacy of the action and can manage new developments as they unfold.
What Makes Us Different?
While national entertainment seems to be saturated with sports news and networks, sports media is still an emerging field in the academic sphere. Samford's sports media minor will put you ahead of the curve with courses specifically created with the modern sports world in mind. You will gain practical, hands-on experience working alongside our journalism professors and the Samford Athletics department.
Career Preparation
Samford's combination of a liberal arts education with hands-on training in the sports media field means our students are uniquely qualified a number of careers upon graduation. We don't want you just learning the theory in the classroom; we have you out practicing your skills with Samford Athletics and with internship experiences.
Students who complete the sports media minor are employable across a wide variety of career fields. Depending on the major it is paired with, students would be well-prepared for jobs as in sports public relations, team management, sports broadcasting, sports writing and reporting, team chaplaincy, and beyond.
