Samford University’s Orlean Beeson School of Education has launched Mission 8.16, a comprehensive giving initiative designed to rally support from donors, alumni, students, faculty, staff and the community. Inspired by Luke 8:16, this mission-driven campaign aims to enhance educational opportunities and resources for future educators and leaders.
Mission 8.16 is a strategic framework for the school’s transformative initiatives that are producing top-quality graduates in the fields of education, human development and family science.
“Our students are boldly pursuing callings that enrich the world,” said Dean Anna McEwan. “We want to invite you to partner with us in shaping their success.”
This holistic campaign addresses key financial barriers for students entering service-focused careers, such as teaching, ministry and community leadership. Scholarships funded through Mission 8.16 provide critical support, ensuring students can focus on their vocations without the weight of financial strain.
“By God’s grace, He has blessed me beyond what I understand,” said Amelia Grace Waltman, a Human Development and Family Science major. “Through the Lord’s great provision, including the many people who have chosen to invest in me, I am overjoyed to announce, thus far the Lord has helped me, and I am debt free.”
“No one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a vessel or puts it under a bed, but sets it on a lampstand, that those who enter may see the light.” — Luke 8:16
For many Orlean Beeson School of Education students, the cost of attending one of the country’s premier institutions in private Christian higher education is in contrast to the salaries they can expect to make as they pursue callings in service-oriented fields. Mission 8.16 seeks to remedy this conflict, ensuring that no student feels forced to sacrifice educational quality based upon cost.
In addition to scholarships, the initiative includes funding for innovative teaching tools, modernized learning spaces and essential renovations to Orlean Bullard Beeson Hall, a central hub for the school since 1978. By updating facilities with cutting-edge technology and flexible spaces, the school seeks to enhance the educational experience for all students.
Mission 8.16 extends its impact through professional development opportunities, research funding and leadership training. These efforts are designed to equip graduates with the skills and knowledge needed to address global challenges and drive positive change in their communities.
Supporters can direct their contributions to immediate-use scholarships, endowed funds, emergency aid, facility improvements and much more to enhance the mission of Orlean Beeson School of Education.
Through participation in Mission 8.16, every contribution extends the reach and influence of Samford University graduates. By investing in this initiative, supporters empower future leaders to bring light to communities around the globe.
“As described in Luke 8:16, our mission comes to fruition when donors partner with us to support students through scholarships, enhanced academic programs, and improved teaching and learning spaces,” said Sheri Ransome, development officer for Orlean Beeson School of Education.
