In honor of Women’s History Month in March, Samford University’s Brock School of Business will host a special brunch to celebrate the accomplishments of women on campus and in the local Birmingham business community. Samford alumna and founder of Her Search, Caroline Shunk ‘16, will deliver the keynote address as the guest speaker. The event will provide an opportunity for fellowship, networking and meaningful connections.
Shunk, who created Her Search to help women navigate the often daunting job search process, will share her journey and insights into how women can land their dream jobs while staying energized, empowered and supported. As an alumna, Shunk's return to campus offers a full-circle moment, where she will equip both students and professionals with the tools to succeed in today’s competitive job market. Attendees can look forward to valuable networking opportunities and advice on overcoming the unique challenges women face in career transitions.

Below, Shunk shares more about Her Search and her vision for empowering women in their professional journeys.
What inspired you to start Her Search?
Navigating the job search landscape can be incredibly taxing and isolating. After experiencing this myself, I created Her Search to empower women to land the right job as the best version of themselves—energized and ready to thrive in any role with a powerful support system and a renewed purpose.
What challenges do women face when networking in the professional world, and how does Her Search address them?
In today’s job market, there are more applicants than available roles, leading highly qualified candidates to face extended, competitive searches. Many encounter repeated rejection, limited opportunities, and barriers like AI-driven resume filtering. Her Search exists to remove the mental, physical, and social obstacles women face in their job search, fostering career growth, holistic wellness, and community support. Our goal is to empower women to land their next role with confidence and strength.
How does revisiting your alma mater play a role in mentorship and networking?
Returning to Samford to support and educate women as they prepare for their job searches is a full-circle moment for me. I remember how overwhelming the process felt, and I wish Her Search had been available to me at that time. Now, I’m honored to be a resource and provide guidance during such a pivotal stage in their careers.
What impact do you hope to make in the Birmingham community?
I want to empower women as they navigate job searches and career transitions. My goal is to equip them with the tools to confidently manage the hiring process, handle rejection with resilience and step into new roles as their best selves—supported, energized and empowered.
How can students and professionals get involved with Her Search?
