Based in Birmingham, AL, Theo Metz is a multifaceted audio specialist, educator, and dynamic performer with over a decade of experience in music technology, live sound, and audio production. Currently serving as an Assistant Professor at Samford University, Theo teaches courses in music technology, recording techniques, and live sound production while directing one of the Commercial Music Ensembles, Montague.
Theo's academic credentials include a Master of Music in Studio Composition from SUNY Purchase and a Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance (Magna Cum Laude) from William Paterson University. His dedication to teaching is evident in his roles as an adjunct professor at several institutions, including William Paterson University, Montclair State University, and Ramapo College, where he taught courses ranging from electronic dance music to sound design.
As a principal live audio engineer, Theo has contributed to high-profile events such as the James Beard Awards, the NJ Gubernatorial Debates, and the Distinguished Lecture Series. He has also worked with renowned artists and ensembles, including Bela Fleck, Ricky Skaggs, the Kronos Quartet, and Ravi Coltrane, providing exceptional live sound support. His technical expertise extends to theatrical sound design, audio mixing, and museum installations, including immersive surround sound projects for the Institute for Creation Research and American Village.
