Evening Lecture: Dr. Harrison will also be giving a free public lecture the same day at 7:00 p.m. in Reid Chapel on the topic: “The Religious Origins Of Modern Science.”


Peter Harrison, Ph.D, formerly the Idreos Professor of Science and Religion at the University of Oxford, an Australian Laureate Fellow and director of the Centre for the History of European Discourses at the University of Queensland. He has been a Visiting Fellow at Oxford, Yale and Princeton, is a founding member of the International Society for Science and Religion, and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities. He has published extensively in the area of philosophical, scientific and religious thought of the early modern period. His five books include The Bible, Protestantism, and the Rise of Natural Science and Wrestling with Nature: From Omens to Science, an edited collection that surveys conceptions of science from antiquity to the present.
