Core Values

Because we value Jesus Christ above all, we value:
  • His Gospel – the good news that Christ came to atone for sins by his death and to give eternal life to all who believe. John 3:16; Romans 1:16
  • His Word – the Old and New Testament, divinely inspired, that reveal Christ to us and bring us to faith in him. Romans 10:17; 2 Timothy 3:16
  • His Church – the body of Christ, loving him supremely and loving and serving one another in the power of his Spirit. Acts 2:42; Romans 12:4-5
  • His Mission – to gather a people for himself from every nation, tribe, and tongue. Matthew 28:18-20; Revelation 7:9-10

  • To reach our neighbors and the nations with the love and grace of Christ
  • To instill joy in those who serve Christ and his church.

FAQs

Who takes MTI classes?

Our students want to develop a deep understanding of scripture and how to share it faithfully in a variety of contexts. They are pastors, Sunday School teachers, small group leaders, parents, and others who want to be effective in ministry in their churches, communities, and families.

Where are the extension sites located?

Extensions sites are conveniently located all across the state of Alabama and most have an option to attend classes online.  Students can attend and fully participate in classes from anywhere!

What can I expect to learn?

MTI classes offer training in ministry, spiritual formation, and biblical studies. Classes are designed to deepen the students own spiritual life and to prepare the student to share biblical truth with others faithfully and effectively.

Do I need a degree to take MTI courses?

No. While MTI is committed to offering a high-quality educational program, our instructors are experienced trainers and gifted communicators who make concepts accessible to everyone.

What is an extension course?

An extension course is a class that meets for eight weeks at one of our many extension sites. Many extension courses are also available via live-stream services. Students who complete any eight extension courses earn the Diploma in Biblical Studies.

What is a certificate course?

Certificate courses offer a deeper dive into critical ministry issues. Our certificate students participate entirely online but still interact with instructors and classmates for a high-quality educational experience. Each certificate course includes four classes and can be completed in a year.

How do I earn a diploma?

An MTI diploma is awarded to students who complete eight classes through our extension sites.  The initial award is the Diploma in Biblical Studies. Additional courses may be taken after the initial eight and advanced diplomas may be earned.

What can I do with an MTI diploma or certificate?

MTI diplomas and certificates carry the reputation of Samford University and demonstrate a commitment to ministry. Though a diploma or certificate is not the same as a degree, MTI coursework is recognized by degree-granting programs. Above all, MTI prepares students to serve faithfully and effectively in a variety of ways for the glory of God.
