Parents Association

As a parent of a Samford student, you are automatically a member of the Parents Association.

Our mission is…

  • to develop a closer relationship between the university and the parents of Samford students
  • to network in local communities
  • to engage in meaningful dialogue with administration
  • to encourage financial participation to support current and  future generations.

Parent to Parent

Welcome to the Samford University Parents Association. Samford is a unique and special place for students, and the University strives to include the family in this experience. It is our hope you will participate in your student’s college experience by becoming active in the Parents Association. Parents will have opportunities to encourage current students as well as prospective students and their families. Begin telling friends and neighbors about your family’s Samford experience. Also, encouraging prospective students to schedule a campus visit is a tremendous boost to the admission process. We can all be SU recruiters in our communities. Check out the Get Involved page for other ideas on how you can begin to get involved at Samford today.

Samford desires to provide consistent communication and up to date information to parents through monthly emails. These emails will include important dates, events and reminders about on campus events and any SU event scheduled in your region or hometown. Parents are also encouraged to join Samford Parents on Facebook and to check out www.samford.edu often. In addition, Samford’s Director of Parent Programs, Kelia Furr is dedicated to working with each family and is just a phone call or email away. Don’t hesitate to contact her with your questions.

Attending Samford events throughout the year is another way to support the University, meet other SU parents and administrators and of course get to know your student’s friends. Events you don’t want to miss include tailgating on the Quad prior to home football games, Homecoming, Family Weekend, theatre productions, Step Sing, and a variety of art and musical performances. All athletic events are great venues for visiting with students and other university supporters.

When and if you are able, consider giving financially to Samford in order to help make the Samford dream a possibility for deserving students now and in the future. Tuition alone covers about 60 percent of the Samford experience and the university depends on gifts from alumni, parents and friends of the University to make up the difference. Your gift, regardless of the amount, continues to make Samford a reality for many students.

As current Samford parents, we are pleased to serve as the Parents Leadership Council (PLC) Co-Chairs for 2013-2014, and we look forward to getting to know you. If this is your first child to send to college or your last, the experience we share as Samford parents brings all of us together. Welcome to the Samford family, and Go Bulldogs!
