Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy student Autumn Bagwell recently was appointed vice-chair for the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (AphA-ASP) Policy Standing Committee for 2012-13.

Bagwell applied for the committee, and the AphA-ASP National Executive Committee selected her from among the applicants. The Policy Standing Committee is one of four committees included in the AphA-ASP, each with three members and one vice-chair.

“I am extremely humbled and honored to be appointed,” said Bagwell. She also said she looks forward to working with her peers to continue advocating for their profession on a national level. She hopes to better understand the politics involved with the pharmaceutical world and install policies to advance her profession and better serve others.

As Bagwell’s co-advisor for the AphA-ASP chapter at Samford University, Dee Dugan said Bagwell is the perfect person for the job.

“We were so excited for her. I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving. She will do an outstanding job as vice chair for the Policy Standing Committee,” said Dugan, associate professor of pharmacy practice.

Bagwell will take her experiences as president of Samford’s chapter and implement a number of ideas for her committee.

“My goal as vice chair is to inspire students to be involved in their profession and to drive positive change within the profession,” Bagwell said. She sees it as her duty, due to her passion for pharmacy, to protect, advocate and bring awareness in various ways related to her profession through appropriate venues.

Bagwell is a third-year pharmacy student and a native of Clarksville, Tenn.
