Posted by Mary Wimberley on 2003-10-31

Hadley Arkes, author of Natural Rights and the Right to Choose, will address students at Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law Friday (NOV. 7) at 11 a.m. in the moot courtroom of Robinson law building. The public is invited.

Arkes, professor of American Institutions at Amherst College, will discuss the ideas presented in the book, which details his role in moving the Born-Alive Infants’ Protection Act through Congress. He is considered the bill’s main advocate and architect.

The program will also include two speakers who will comment on Arkes’ ideas.

Samford political science professor Dr. William Collins will address the jurisprudential aspects of the book.

Washington & Lee University constitutional law professor Ann MacLean Massie will discuss constitutional and legal aspects.

The lecture is presented as part of Cumberland’s Ray Rushton Distinguished Lecturer Series. The series honoring the late Montgomery attorney is designed to provide law students and faculty an annual forum with prominent legal scholars.
