Posted by Mary Wimberley on 2003-04-11

Alabama Gov. Bob Riley will visit the Samford University campus Monday (APRIL 14). It will be his first trip to the Birmingham school since his election in November, 2002.

Riley will speak at the annual Omicron Delta Kappa induction convocation at 2:30 p.m. in Reid Chapel. Six new student members will be inducted into the Samford chapter of the national honor society that recognizes "leaders among leaders" on college campuses. The public is invited.

Prior to the ODK event, Gov. Riley will address students at Samford's Cumberland School of Law at 2 p.m. in the moot courtroom, Robinson law building.

He will discuss Constitutional Reform during the program sponsored by Cumberland's Cordell Hull Speakers Forum lecture series.

Also during the law school event, four individuals with Cumberland ties will be recognized by Speakers Forum leaders for their work with the Constitutional reform effort. They are: law professors Howard Walthall and Gov. Albert Brewer, and Cumberland alumnae Lenora Pate and Lisa Sharp.

Walthall is director of the State Constitutional Law Project, based at Cumberland. Brewer serves on the board of directors of Alabama Citizens for Constitutional Reform. Pate and Sharp were appointed by Gov. Riley to serve as members of the Alabama Citizens Constitution Commission.
