Samford Theatre Opens Fall Season with 'Shadowlands'
Samford University Theatre will present Shadowlands Oct. 6-9 in Samford's Harrison Theatre. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9.
William Nicholson's hit play depicts the love story of American poet Joy Davidman and C.S. Lewis, famed Oxford don, Anglican theologian and author of The Chronicles of Narnia.
The introduction of Davidman and her young son into Lewis' life shatters his smug convictions about God and his plan for the world, and challenges him to confront love and pain in the flesh.
Lewis, who died in 1963, was selected by Christian History magazine as one of the 10 most important Christians of the 20th century. The author of more than 30 books, he was a professor of Medieval and Renaissance literature at Oxford University and later at Cambridge University.
The Samford production features student actors Natalie Saxon of Atlanta, Ga., as Joy Davidman and Matt Godfrey of Hoover as C.S. Lewis. David Coley of Germantown, Tenn., is the student director.
Tickets are $8 adults, $7 senior citizens and $5 students/children. For reservations, call the Samford Theatre box office at (205) 726-2853.
