Samford’s Greek Community Presents Annual Awards

Samford University's Greek Life program presented the 2011-12 awards during an April 11 ceremony in the Wright Fine Arts Center. The awards ceremony was part of the annual Greek Week festivities.

Alpha Delta Pi and Sigma Chi won the Intramural Sports Champions award.

Zeta Tau Alpha, Sigma Chi and Sigma Nu won Outstanding Service awards.

Academic awards were given to Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Phi Mu and Alpha Delta Pi. Each chapter was recognized with a banner signifying achieving at or above the campus-wide grade point average. Delta Sigma Theta and Alpha Phi Alpha won the Most Improved GPA award. Alpha Delta Pi and Alpha Phi Alpha received the Most Outstanding GPA award.

Outstanding Campus Involvement awards were given to Alpha Omicron Pi and Sigma Chi.

Phi Mu and Sigma Nu received Outstanding Philanthropic Effort awards.

Payton Agan from Pi Kappa Phi was awarded Greek Man of the Year. He is a senior accounting major from Jonesboro, Ark.

Greek Woman of the Year was awarded to Brittany Truitt from Alpha Delta Pi. Truitt is a senior family studies major from Auburndale, Fla.

Ashley Crafton Stephens from Phi Mu won the Chapter Alumni Advisor of the Year award. Stephens, of Birmingham, is a 2008 Samford graduate.

Chapter Advisor of the Year went to Denise Gregory, Delta Sigma Theta. Gregory is assistant professor of chemistry.

Paige Pettaway was inducted into the Samford Greek Life Hall of Fame. Pettway is a fourth year pharmacy student at Samford and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta.

Samford's Director of Greek Life Denny Bubrig said the award ceremony reflected the talent and well-rounded nature of Samford's Greek Life.
"It encompassed every facet of Greek Life. The awards recognized excellence ranging from intramurals to individuals to chapters to philanthropy and service," Bubrig said. "It really was the capstone to a great week."
