Dr. Chew, chair of Samford’s psychology department, was named the 2011 Professor the Year for Master’s Universities and Colleges by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. His convocation topic will be “The Importance of Seeing Difficulty, and the Difficulty of Seeing Importance.”

The convocation program will include the presentation of the George Macon teaching award and the Jennings B. Marshall faculty service award.

Southern Baptist Convention president Bryant Wright will speak at the semester-opening convocation for Samford’s Beeson Divinity School Tuesday at 11 a.m. in A. Gerow Hodges Chapel.  Dr. Wright is senior pastor of the 8,000-member Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta, Ga.

Students in Samford’s Cumberland School of Law and McWhorter School of Pharmacy began spring term classes earlier this month.
