An in-depth look at missions worldwide will educate, connect and mobilize Samford University students for the Great Commission during Go Global mission emphasis week October 8-10.
Global activist and Great Commission mobilizer Jeffrey Lewis will speak several times during the three-day series of workshops, mission agency exhibitions and other programs. The public is invited to any of the events.
"Our hope with Go Global is for students to be inspired by the Great Commission of Jesus and to be exposed to a variety of ways they can utilize their skills and passions to engage in God's work around the world," said Renee Pitts, Samford minister to students for global involvement.
Lewis is assistant professor of intercultural studies and director of the Global Center at California Baptist University in Riverside, Calif. He will speak on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at a 10 a.m. convocation in Reid Chapel and at an 11 a.m. Beeson Divinity community worship in Hodges Chapel. He will also participate in a 7 p.m. worship gathering in Reid Chapel.
Lewis has worked in 36 countries assisting field personnel and indigenous church leaders with mobilization, strategy, development and implementation. He is the author of God's Heart for the Nations, and a contributor to Discovering the Mission of God: Best Missional Practices for the 21st Century.
Representatives of 32 mission agencies will share information about their work at an exhibition on Samford's Ben Brown Plaza Wednesday and Thursday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Workshop topics on Wednesday afternoon are: Charity is Not the Answer (Hope International), Indigenous Holistic Ministries for Women: Water, Health, Sex Trafficking, Education and Economic Empowerment (Global Women), Enabling National Missionaries to Share the Gospel and Plant Churches (Gospelink) and The Great Commission goes Mobile (OneHundredFold).
