Library Opens Practice Presentation Room Funded by ALFA

Posted on 2013-02-06 by William Nunnelley (205) 726-2800

Samford University will dedicate its new ALFA Practice Presentation Room 214 in Harwell G. Davis Library Thursday, Feb. 7, at 11 a.m.  The facility has been renovated and outfitted with the latest technology, creating space for students to practice and refine presentations for classes, seminars, conferences and thesis defense.

The upgrade was funded by a generous gift from the ALFA Foundation.

The room has an electric screen, projector, video camera and confidence monitor all controlled by an AMX control system for ease of use.  It has software for recording user presentations loaded on a computer.  The system allows for the use of multiple devices for presentations.

"This is the first such space of its kind on campus and will meet a critical need for our students in preparing and refining their presentation and communications skills," said Kim Herndon, dean of Samford's University Library.

Students may reserve the room for two hours on site or by phone.

"The gift from the ALFA Foundation has enabled Samford University to provide state-of-the-art technology to students, allowing them to practice and fine-tune their presentation  skills," said David Hakanson, Samford's chief information officer.
